Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – Tizi n'Tichka – Ait Benhaddou – Dades Valley

Pickup from your riad or hotel in Marrakech at around 8:00. Cross the High Atlas over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, with photo stops and a Berber village along the way. At midday, explore the UNESCO-listed Ksar of Ait Benhaddou, with a lunch stop facing its earthen towers.

In the afternoon, continue past Ouarzazate and through the Valley of Roses around Kelaat M'Gouna, where rose water is distilled in spring. Drop-off at your accommodation in the Dades Valley (not included).

Day 2: Dades – Tinghir – Todra Gorge – Merzouga and Erg Chebbi

Pickup from your accommodation, then walk through the palm oasis of Tinghir and into the Todra Gorge, where the canyon walls rise up to about 400 meters. In the afternoon, cross the stony desert past Erfoud and Rissani to Merzouga.

Arrive in the late afternoon for sunset over the Erg Chebbi dunes, then drop-off at your hotel or desert camp (not included).

Day 3: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Midelt – Azrou – Ifrane – Fes

Watch the sunrise over the dunes if you wish, then pickup from your accommodation. Drive north along the palm-lined Ziz Valley and through the Ziz Gorges, then climb to Midelt on the high plains for a lunch stop.

In the afternoon, cross the Middle Atlas through the cedar forests near Azrou, home to Barbary macaques, and stop for coffee in alpine-style Ifrane. Arrive in Fes in the late afternoon, with drop-off at your hotel or riad, or the nearest medina gate.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Marrakech to Fes on this desert tour?

Roughly 1,000 km over three days, with driving times of about 6 to 7, 4 to 5 and 8 hours including stops.

Can I do the tour from Fes to Marrakech instead?

Yes. The same route runs in reverse, with the Middle Atlas and Ziz Valley on day one and the High Atlas on the final day.

Do your tour rates include hotel or desert camp bookings?

No. Morocco Trip Lines operates strictly on a private transport-only model: our tour rates cover your private licensed vehicle, fuel, highway tolls, and dedicated professional driver-guide. You book your own nights (hotels, riads, and desert camps) directly with properties that match your budget and taste, and your driver-guide drops you off at your accommodation each evening and picks you up the next morning. If you need recommendations for vetted riads or desert camps, we are happy to share our favorites!

Where will I be dropped off in Fes?

At your hotel or riad, or at the nearest car-accessible point if your riad is inside the car-free medina. Your riad can send someone to meet you there.

What happens to my luggage?

It travels with you in the vehicle during the day. Take what you need into your accommodation each night.

Is this tour suitable for children?

Yes. Children love the dunes and the macaques in the cedar forest. For younger kids, consider adding a fourth day to shorten the drives.

How do I choose a desert camp that suits my budget?

Morocco Trip Lines operates strictly on a private transport-only model: we provide your private air-conditioned vehicle, fuel, highway tolls, and dedicated driver-guide, giving you complete freedom to choose camps that suit your personal budget with zero middleman markups. Options range from authentic standard desert bivouacs to comfort and luxury desert camps featuring private en-suite flush bathrooms and hot showers. You can book directly on Booking.com, Airbnb, or directly with the camp. We are always happy to share our curated list of trusted, clean, and welcoming camps in Merzouga and Zagora, and your driver-guide coordinates seamless dune transfers and luggage handling directly with your camp.

I had the chance to discover beautiful landscapes and authentic places thanks to Saida Tours. The organization was impeccable from start to finish: punctuality, comfort, and above all a warm and passionate team. The guide was not only professional but also very attentive, enthusiastically sharing the local history and culture. An experience that is both rewarding and human. I highly recommend to all those who want to live a real moment of discovery 👍🏻
