Overview

  • Duration:3 days 2 nights
  • Tour Type:Private tour, Sahara Desert Tours
  • Duration:3 days / 2 nights
Private Transport Private vehicle + dedicated driver-guide. Flexible pace — you choose and book your preferred desert camps and hotels.

This private 3-day desert tour from Marrakech takes you over the High Atlas, through the kasbah valleys of the south and into the tallest dunes in Morocco, the orange sea of Erg Chebbi near Merzouga. You travel in your own vehicle with your own driver-guide, so the pace, the stops and the photo breaks are yours to decide.

On the way you walk through the UNESCO-listed Ksar of Ait Benhaddou, follow the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to the Dades Valley, stroll through the palm oasis of Tinghir and stand beneath the cliffs of the Todra Gorge. Then comes the moment the trip is built around: sunset over the Erg Chebbi dunes. Accommodation is not included, so you choose the hotel and desert camp that suit you, and your driver-guide drops you there each evening.

We are local hosts, and we plan every desert trip around you. Tell us if you would rather spend more time in the dunes, skip a stop, end your trip in Fes instead of Marrakech, or add a day to make the return easier.

Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – Tizi n'Tichka – Ait Benhaddou – Dades Valley

Morning pickup from your riad or hotel in Marrakech. Climb into the High Atlas over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, with stops at viewpoints and a Berber village along the way. At midday, explore the UNESCO-listed Ksar of Ait Benhaddou on foot, with a lunch stop facing its earthen towers.

Continue past Ouarzazate along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs and through the Valley of Roses around Kelaat M'Gouna. Arrive in the Dades Valley in the late afternoon, with drop-off at your accommodation (not included).

Day 2: Dades Gorge – Tinghir – Todra Gorge – Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes

Pickup from your accommodation and drive up the winding Dades Gorge road for morning views, then head east to Tinghir and its palm oasis. Step into the Todra Gorge, where the canyon walls rise up to about 400 meters.

Cross the stony hamada past Erfoud and Rissani to Merzouga, arriving in the late afternoon for sunset over the Erg Chebbi dunes. Drop-off at your hotel or desert camp (not included).

Day 3: Sunrise in the dunes – return to Marrakech

Watch the sunrise over the dunes if you wish, then pickup from your accommodation. Begin the scenic drive back west, with regular breaks for coffee, lunch and viewpoints, and a second crossing of the High Atlas in the afternoon light.

Drop-off at your Marrakech accommodation in the evening. Prefer a shorter return? Ask us about adding a day on the way back, or ending your tour in Fes.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a private tour?

Yes. You travel only with your own group, in a private vehicle with your own driver-guide, so you can set the pace and choose your stops.

Do your tour rates include hotel or desert camp bookings?

No. Morocco Trip Lines operates strictly on a private transport-only model: our tour rates cover your private licensed vehicle, fuel, highway tolls, and dedicated professional driver-guide. You book your own nights (hotels, riads, and desert camps) directly with properties that match your budget and taste, and your driver-guide drops you off at your accommodation each evening and picks you up the next morning. If you need recommendations for vetted riads or desert camps, we are happy to share our favorites!

How long are the drives?

Day 1 and Day 2 are around 5 to 7 hours each including stops. Day 3 is the long one, around 9 to 10 hours back to Marrakech. We can add a day on the way back to make it easier.

Can the tour end in Fes instead of Marrakech?

Yes. Ending in Fes avoids the long drive back and passes through the Ziz Valley and the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas. Ask us when you book.

What should I pack for the desert night?

A small overnight bag with a warm layer, a scarf for sun and sand, sunscreen, a torch and your essentials. See our Sahara packing list for details.

Is this tour suitable for children?

Yes, with good pacing. Children usually love the dunes. For younger kids, we recommend adding a day on the way back to shorten Day 3.

How do I choose a desert camp that suits my budget?

Morocco Trip Lines operates strictly on a private transport-only model: we provide your private air-conditioned vehicle, fuel, highway tolls, and dedicated driver-guide, giving you complete freedom to choose camps that suit your personal budget with zero middleman markups. Options range from authentic standard desert bivouacs to comfort and luxury desert camps featuring private en-suite flush bathrooms and hot showers. You can book directly on Booking.com, Airbnb, or directly with the camp. We are always happy to share our curated list of trusted, clean, and welcoming camps in Merzouga and Zagora, and your driver-guide coordinates seamless dune transfers and luggage handling directly with your camp.

I had the chance to discover beautiful landscapes and authentic places thanks to Saida Tours. The organization was impeccable from start to finish: punctuality, comfort, and above all a warm and passionate team. The guide was not only professional but also very attentive, enthusiastically sharing the local history and culture. An experience that is both rewarding and human. I highly recommend to all those who want to live a real moment of discovery 👍🏻
