Overview

  • Duration:4 days 3 nights
  • Tour Type:Private tour, Sahara Desert Tours
  • Duration:4 days / 3 nights
Private Transport Private vehicle + dedicated driver-guide. Flexible pace — you choose and book your preferred desert camps and hotels.

This private 4-day tour is made for travelers who arrive in Marrakech and fly home from Casablanca. Instead of driving back the way you came, you cross Morocco in one line: over the High Atlas to Ait Benhaddou and Skoura, through the Valley of Roses to the Dades Valley, and on through the Todra Gorge to the dunes of Erg Chebbi in time for sunset.

After sunrise in the dunes, the road heads north through the date palms of the Ziz Valley to Midelt. On the last day you cross the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, see the Barbary macaques near Azrou, stop in Ifrane, then take the motorway to Casablanca for your flight or hotel. Accommodation is not included: you choose where you stay each night, and your driver-guide drops you there and picks you up the next morning.

For more on starting or ending a desert trip in Casablanca, read our desert tour from Casablanca guide. The road from Merzouga through the Middle Atlas is described day by day in our Marrakech to Fes desert tour guide.

Frequently asked questions

Who is this tour designed for?

Travelers who fly into Marrakech and out of Casablanca and want to see the Sahara in between. As a private tour, it suits couples, families and small groups.

Can I be dropped at Casablanca airport?

Yes. We drop you at Mohammed V Airport departures or at any Casablanca hotel. Arrival is usually between 17:00 and 18:30, so tell us your flight time when you book. If you stay on in Casablanca, a photo stop at the Hassan II Mosque can be added.

What is the route, day by day?

Day 1 crosses the High Atlas to Ait Benhaddou, Skoura and the Valley of Roses, ending in the Dades Valley. Day 2 covers the Todra Gorge, Erfoud and Rissani, then sunset in the Erg Chebbi dunes. Day 3 starts with sunrise in the dunes, then the Ziz Valley to Midelt. Day 4 crosses the cedar forests near Azrou and Ifrane, then takes the motorway to Casablanca.

Do I see Ait Benhaddou and both gorges?

Yes. Ait Benhaddou is on Day 1, with time to climb to the old granary. The Dades Gorge viewpoint is visited on the evening of Day 1 or the morning of Day 2, and you walk into the Todra Gorge on Day 2.

How much driving is there each day?

About 6 to 7 hours on Day 1 (around 350 km), 5 hours on Day 2, 5 hours on Day 3 (around 280 km) and 6 to 6.5 hours on Day 4 (around 430 km). Stops are built in, and in a private vehicle you set the pace.

Do your tour rates include hotel or desert camp bookings?

No. Morocco Trip Lines operates strictly on a private transport-only model: our tour rates cover your private licensed vehicle, fuel, highway tolls, and dedicated professional driver-guide. You book your own nights (hotels, riads, and desert camps) directly with properties that match your budget and taste, and your driver-guide drops you off at your accommodation each evening and picks you up the next morning. If you need recommendations for vetted riads or desert camps, we are happy to share our favorites!

How much does the tour cost?

The price depends on your group size, the season and the route. Send your dates and number of travelers through the enquiry form, and we will reply with a personal quote.

When is the best time of year for this route?

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the most comfortable, and the Valley of Roses blooms in May. Summer is hot but manageable with air conditioning and early starts. In winter, snow can fall around Ifrane and on the Tizi n'Tichka, which may close for a few hours after a storm.

Can the itinerary be customized?

Yes. You can add the Ouarzazate film studios, a stop at Bab Mansour in Meknes, or an extra day on the road. Contact us with your ideas.

How do I choose a desert camp that suits my budget?

Morocco Trip Lines operates strictly on a private transport-only model: we provide your private air-conditioned vehicle, fuel, highway tolls, and dedicated driver-guide, giving you complete freedom to choose camps that suit your personal budget with zero middleman markups. Options range from authentic standard desert bivouacs to comfort and luxury desert camps featuring private en-suite flush bathrooms and hot showers. I had the chance to discover beautiful landscapes and authentic places thanks to Saida Tours. The organization was impeccable from start to finish: punctuality, comfort, and above all a warm and passionate team. The guide was not only professional but also very attentive, enthusiastically sharing the local history and culture. An experience that is both rewarding and human. I highly recommend to all those who want to live a real moment of discovery 👍🏻
